It’s just 9.9° C in Nakhon Phanom, but farmers are happy


WHILE residents of northeastern Nakhon Phanom province shivered with the temperature being just 9.9° Celsius this morning, farmers along Mekong river are all smiles because their crops are growing fast, INN News reported today (Jan. 12). Even as farmers living on the bank of this river feel the chill that it is accompanied by strong wind, they are nevertheless in a joyous mood, as not only are their sufficiency farm vegetables growing fast, taking 2 months to mature not the usual 3 months, they are fetching good prices because many other areas in the country are facing a drought. Right now cabbage, lettuce, kale and spring onion are the money spinners. And this might continue because in Don Kwang subdistirct of Mueang district and Sang Phan subdistrict of That Phanom district vegetables continue to grow along the river bank throughout the dry season, with the total area being not less than 500 rai. Farmers are currently busy harvesting spring onion, and traders are lining up to buy and send across the country, with the price being 60-70 baht a kilogram, or around 80,000 to 100,000 baht a rai.
